From Laubegast to Syracuse - Some guys walk it... Taking some months - and a solid pair of hand-made shoes... The times, they have changed, but there are still some freaks doing it I must say I certainly do not belong to those crazy ones... Both, I am not so flexible with time, and I am not a good walker any more. However, with my ukulele, four wheels and modern equipment such as GPS navigation an old road cowboy has not to fear long distances like that - just to touch some of the lovely mountain villages of Italy, the sunny coast side, the stones of the Old Times, the brightness of Renaissance from Venice to Firence, to Sienna, Pisa, from Rome to Syracuse... A two weeks tour can not reflect, never, what the great masters of words have told in their diaries and poems. What I did was just a discover trip. I won't publish my own diary here. You may read the fabulous works from German writers such as Goethe, Seume, Hesse, to get a glue what a fascinating country Italy is, in its history as well as in our times. My very spontaneous pilgrimage is what one could call a photo-safari, not mor, not less. As far as you have been to Italy, my pictures and the music may help reminding your own experiences. If you haven't been there yet, you may find inspirations for travelling as well.

Reggio Calabria - down in the "bootleg"

Just a minute after taking this pictures I had a problem. Driving through a tunnel one of my wheels lost air. I could not stop because of the dangerous spot I was at. But after a while a car stopped and two professional men helped me to get away and repaired it.
